1 (for Dutch go to page 4) How to install and use dictionaries on the ICARUS Illumina HD (E652BK) The Illumina HD offers dictionary support for StarDict dictionaries.this is a (free) open source dictionary format, and therefore hundreds of dictionaries are available. These dictionaries are not installed out of the box as each user has different needs and interests. It is very easy to install the dictionaries you need though. This document will guide you through the process. Note: if you install a large number of dictionaries, the e-reader can respond slower to commands 1. Where to download dictionaries? You can download a selection of free dictionaries from our website under the downloads section. An alternative source of free dictionaries under GPL license can be found here: You can find there not only translation dictionaries, but for instance also specialized dictionaries for Economics, Mathematics etcetera. An alternative is to use Google to search for free StarDict dictionaries. 2. Installation instructions To install the dictionary on your ICARUS Illumina HD, follow these steps: a) In the Root of the e-reader, create a folder called Dict (capital D, small capital ict) When viewing the e-reader in the Windows explorer, it will look similar to this:

2 b) Download the desired StarDict dictionaries. Usually a StarDict dictionary is an archive that needs to be extracted. Extract the archive and you will find a file folder that includes several files. Copy this entire file folder to the Dict folder of the e-reader c) An example of a Dict folder with several dictionaries installed is the following. d) Once the file folder has been copied to the Dict folder, the Dictionary can be used. e) The dictionary function only works if you set the default Epub reader to FB reader in the Settings menu: Open Settings from the main menu Select Preferences Default reader for epub files and choose FBReader The dictionary does not work for PDF files, but it does for the other supported file formats such as epub, FB2 etcetera. 3. How to use the dictionary while reading a book Open a book in a format that supports the use of dictionaries (e.g. epub, FB2 etcetera but not PDF) If you have a word you want to have translated or of which you want to find out the meaning, do the following: a) Use the Navigation buttons (arrow keys) to go to a specific word (you see a line in front of the word that will be selected). To go down one line press the Down button, to go up one line press the Up button. b) Double-click the OK button of the e-reader (if you instead first press once, the word will be selected and the word will be completely underlined; if you press a second time, a pop-up screen will show and you can choose to translate the word; if instead you double-click immediately you will see the pop-up screen at once and you can have the word translated). c) A pop-up screen will show with the options Annotation Translate Memo

3 d) Tap on Translate e) The e-reader will now show all matches with the word selected. If you have for instance 2 translation dictionaries installed (Dutch and German) then the meaning of the word will be shown in both languages. If the result is too large to fit one screen, you can move to the next screen with the Page Turning Buttons.

4 Hoe installeer en gebruik je woordenboeken op de ICARUS Illumina HD (E652BK) De Illumina HD heeft ingebouwde ondersteuning voor woordenboeken in het StarDict formaat. Dit is een (gratis) open source formaat voor digitale woordenboeken en er zijn dan ook honderden woordenboeken in omloop. Af-fabriek zijn geen woordenboeken geinstalleerd omdat iedere gebruiker behoefte heeft aan andere woordenboeken. Het is echter heel eenvoudig om woordenboeken toe te voegen aan de Illumina HD. Let op: de snelheid van de e-reader kan minder worden indien vele woordenboeken worden geïnstalleerd. 4. Waar kun je woordenboeken downloaden? Je kunt een selectie van woordenboeken downloaden van onze website in de downloads sectie. Een alternatieve lokatie met gratis woordenboeken (GPL) is de volgende: Je vindt hier niet alleen vertaalwoordenboeken, maar ook specialistische woordenboeken. Een alternatieve bron van woordenboeken is Google (zoekterm: free StarDict). 5. Installatie instructies Om een woordenboek te installeren op de Illumina HD dienen de volgende stappen gevolgd te worden: f) Maak in de root van de e-reader een map aan met de naam Dict (hoofdletter D, kleine letters ict) In de (Windows) verkenner ziet de root van de e-reader er als volgt uit:

5 g) Download de gewenste StarDict woordenboeken. Normaal gesproken is een StarDict download een ingepakt bestand (archief) die uitgepakt moet worden. Doe dit en kopieer de hele bestandsfolder die hieruit resulteert naar de map Dict. Deze bestandsfolder bevat een aantal bestanden.

6 h) Een voorbeeld van een Dict map met enkele geïnstalleerde woordenboeken ziet er als volgt uit: i) Zodra de bestandsfolder is gekopieerd, kan het woordenboek worden gebruikt. j) Let op: de woordenboek functie van de e-reader werkt uitsluitend als de Standaard reader voor epub bestanden is ingesteld op FBReader. Om dit in te stellen: Open Instellingen vanuit het hoofdmenu Kies Voorkeuren Standard reader voor epub bestanden en kies FBReader De woordenboek functie werkt niet in PDF bestanden, maar wel in de andere ondersteunde formaten als epub, FB2 etcetera. 6. Het woordenboek gebruiken bij het lezen van een ebook Open een book in een formaat dat de woordenboek functie ondersteunt (bijvoorbeeld epub, FB2 etcetera maar niet PDF) Doe het volgende om de betekenis/vertaling van een woord te bekijken: f) Gebruik de Navigatie knoppen (pijltjestoetsen) om naar een specifiek woord te gaan (je ziet een vertical lijn voor het te selecteren woord. Om een regel naar beneden te gaan druk je op de Pijltje omlaag toets, om een regel omhoog te gaan druk je op de Pijltje omhoog toets. g) Dubbelklik op de OK knop van de e-reader (als je één keer drukt wordt het woord alleen geselecteerd het woord wordt onderstreept. Als je nogmaals drukt word teen pop-up scherm getoond waarna je de vertaling kunt kiezen. Als je dubbel-klikt wordt direct dit pop-up scherm geopend. h) Een pop-up scherm met de opties Annotatie Vertalen Memo verschijnt i) Druk op Vertalen j) De e-reader zal alle vertalingen/betekenissen van het woord tonen. Als je bijvoorbeeld 2 woordenboeken hebt geïnstalleerd (Nederlands en Duits) verschijnen

7 de Nederlandse en Duitse betekenis van het woord. Als de inhoud van het resultaat niet op een scherm past, kun je met de Bladerknoppen naar de volgende pagina met zoekresultaten.
